Iron Infusion

At Brunswick Central Medical Centre, we provide intravenous iron infusion therapy for patients with iron deficiency when oral iron supplements are not tolerated, ineffective, or inappropriate. Iron is essential for producing healthy red blood cells, and low levels can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath, and poor concentration.

An iron infusion involves administering iron directly into the bloodstream through a slow intravenous (IV) drip. This method allows for faster replenishment of iron stores compared to oral supplements and may be recommended for individuals with diagnosed iron deficiency anaemia, certain chronic conditions, or ongoing iron loss.

Before treatment, your doctor will conduct a comprehensive assessment, including blood tests, to confirm iron deficiency and determine if an infusion is clinically appropriate.

As with any medical treatment, there are potential risks and side effects, which will be discussed with you during your consultation. A referral may be required depending on your circumstances.

To find out if an iron infusion is right for you, please book a consultation with one of our doctors.
